Home : Gun Kits
Each year brings more black powder enthusiasts
into our sport. Many are seeking the special
quality and appearance that go into a hand-
firearm. Some of these shooters and collectors
decide to build their own guns.
We have selected these components carefully to
ensure their quality, authenticity, the harmony
design and function. We are not able to inlet
components other than those we have specified
particular styles of firearms.
Our Kits are NOT supplied with instructions.
Although, relatively easy to assemble, with
few common bench tools, we do suggest that you
consider and study one or more of the fine
available on this subject before starting your
project. Especially if this is your first
We do offer the book "THE FINE ART of BUILDING
PENNSYLVANIA LONG RIFLE". This is one of the
finest sources of information and technical
instruction on the market today.
You will need normal wood working tools and
small chisels to fit the tang and breech plug
the stock but 98% of the work is done. Also
will need to drill and tap holes for the tang
bolt, lock screws, drum or touch hole etc. The
barrel channel, ramrod channel and the lock
section are already inletted in the stock as is
the trigger assembly and trigger guard, where
appropriate, but again a small amount of
may need to be removed for a good fit. You will
need to inlet the nose cap, barrel pin inlays,
side plate and fit the butt plate. You will
to finish and blue or brown all the metal parts
and contour the stock around the butt plate.
Please note that Pistol Kits do not have the
or trigger plate inletted.
This is rather minor work but does require some
time and good sharp tools (xacto knives &
small chisels, files and the ability to finish
the metal parts.
By ordering the additional work with the kit
1. Install the under lugs.
2. Install the breech plug.
3. Cut the sight dovetails.
4. Cut in the butt plate.
5. Cut and Crown Barrel (if other than 42” or
6. Install under rib with screws and solder
thimbles to rib (Plains and Hawken rifles)
You will save yourself several hours of work
minimize the tools you will need.
Hope this is helpful.
