This tobacco box was copied from an original in the Museum of the Fur Trade at Chardron, NE. This box was a very popular trade item carried by the Hudson Bay Co. and the Northwest Co. during the height of the fur trade era. It is oval in shape with a friction fit lid and features the eight power burning glass that allows one to light a pipe in the sun or light a campfire tinder. Almost every buckskinner has one of these in their pocket. It measures 4 5/16” by 3”. The lens is protected by a friction fitting lens cap.
