This tomahawk making video, Making a Hand Forged Pipe Tomahawk, features Wallace Gusler of Williamsburg, Virginia working in a traditional manner with hand tools to forge, file and finish a poll tomahawk in a typical style found on the Colonial frontier. The making of two types of pipe axes is demonstrated: one from strap wrought iron with a separate pipe bowl attached, and the other forged in one piece with the pipe bowl. He also shows forge welding the steel bit into the iron head. Next, Wallace shows drilling, shaping, staining and finishing of a fine, curly maple handle. Bonus material includes how to modify a hot cutter to make a bottom fuller to help in forging a tomahawk, as well as showing original tomahawks from Wallace's fine private collection. 88 minute presentation.
